Always a treat, this pre-Xmas fixture against Queen's Club at Queen's.

In recent times, we have been losers, something that stings, if only mildly, so we were keen to make amends in 2023. This time, match manager Dick Warner was sidelined by injury, reduced to watching and nail-biting.

We started brilliantly, with Piers Vacher (St81-86) and Callum Grier (C08-13) nipping the match 7 games to 6. Then stalwart Oli Buckley (W67-71), partnered by Paul Yates (W70-75), won their match 8-6. Great start, optimism began to rise.

But then a pulverising loss, 2-11, suffered by Charles Fraser (St74-79) and Piers. What a knock for our (over)confidence. So back to one up for the ORs. Swiftly followed by another annihilation 1-12 for Fred Satow (C70-75), partnered by Callum. Two matches apiece, with two to go.

Oli and Charles played a sterling match, drawing 7 games all, so even with one match to play .... Unfortunately, we were also hammered in this last round, with Fred and Paul slumping to a 3-11 defeat.

So, we will need to beef up our team for December 2024 and avenge that loss.
